ETM problem - V70 2001 2.4 NA

Post by ashleyg82v702001 »

my v70 2001 2.4 n/a is having an issue I think with the etm however it's just been re-manufactured and continues to do this when the engine is cold before starting (see video).
Once the engine starts I have no cruise control. Although diag comp. shows button is working (it appears disabled) car runs lumpy and rich and once warm a restart cures all issues and it runs perfectly 9/10 times.

Code set for " internal fault ( no signal) etm"

I've got her booked into volvo for etm reload on Thursday.

But I feel that this issue seems more mechanical as opposed to electronic due to the fact it cures when hot? Please if anyone has experienced this before and cured it can you help!

Thankyou

Have you closely examined the condition of the wire harness and connections between the ETM and ECU? It’s somewhat of a common point of failure.

I did have a look when I stripped it to send it away.. But perhaps I need to revisit that and have another long hard look

It was a failed etm, rebuild was a failure... Had to go main dealer to get new and etm reload/calibration Fortunately got my money back from remanufacturer.
Bye bye £500.. On a plus car is now running beautifully

That’s a really early failure. I don’t like data that doesn’t support my theories so I’ll try to ignore this. That seems to be our current governments approach to Covid

Yes it is early, my thoughts are age related failure rather than wear (dry solder joint?) 19 years supposedly.. Obviously I don't know if the previous owner had replaced with a breaker part so may have been more used?

There is a date code on the throttle body , something like YY W NN. The w stands for week of manufacture NN in year YY

Yes my old throttle body had a Nov 2000 build date.
Which would probably coincide with the car build date
