today I replaced crankshaft sensor. I installed it still no luck. I still have crank no start. I tested voltage at the coils and I don't seem to have any significant voltage at any of the wires to the coil. there are 3 wires - 2 outer wires are brown and green/yellow and the middle wire is black.
My next question I guess is the ECU. under the hood. I appreciate any and all input Is there a way to check the ECU. thanks you all again. Steve

that usually amounts to removing ecm and cleaning contacts, lots of youtube vids show how to.spineda wrote: ↑09 Oct 2020, 14:09 today I replaced crankshaft sensor. I installed it still no luck. Fired by interrupting the ground or un-grounding the primary winding ... turns off the primary.
Current flowing through the primary stores energy in an electromagnetic field. When the ground is interrupted, the current ceases to flow and the electromagnetic field collapses. The energy from the collapsing electromagnetic field is transferred to the secondary windings. That energy is what induces the high voltage in the secondary windings. The energy discharges through the spark plug.

The next step is trace back your missing 12 Volts to the next place it is present, you need the wiring diagram for this. I believe it is the main engine relay on your car, but that’s why you need the wiring diagram.
It’s not the ECU,

thank you sir some one suggested that the cam position sensor may be the issue yesterday. I then checked voltage to the cam position sensor and I only had 0.2 volts which may be a ghost voltage or backround voltage. '
I am going to try to track down a wiring diagram because you idea makes total sense
I will look for Haynes or similar manuals unless anyone knows a place where I might find one
again many thanks

Look closer the "Brown" is dark Red.
Red is the +12V common to all the coils. It is feed by Fuses 11A/8, 11B/4 and the Fuel-system main relay.

thanks rick I agree that the wire is dark red, I did check the fuses. I did not see anything but will recheck again. someone mentioned the main engine relay. I have seen this relay on early models (P1 cars) but not on the 2001 models. Do you or anyone know where it is ? I have ordered a manual and am waiting for it. Thanks steve 217 553 2110
