Replacing FPR on 850 M4.4 non turbo

Post by misha »

I'm still fighting with intermittent longer crank than usual when car sits overnight.

I replaced fuel pump with brand new and still have the problem,so it wasn't weak fuel pump or it's check valve.
Although it starts better... i'm not satisfied yet.

Fuel pump i replaced was 12 years in the tank so i thought that it is a good idea to replace it just in case.

Yes...12 years of service! ;)

Fpr is another suspect.

My question is....since fpr is small one, Bosch 0 280 160 554 near fuel filter....can i reuse the return line which comes out of it without replacing the whole line?

Can i slide the hose off the old one and slide it on...on new fpr and secure it with a clamp as a precaution?

Fpr is held by 2 screws on plastic housing...so there shouldn't be a problem here.

Don’t fear the fuel lines and fancy connectors. You can splice into them and make repairs with Dorman solutions and simple hand tools, and a hair dryer.

That's the last line of defense!
We don't have Dorman solutions here in Serbia, abscate.
It's junkyard or stealership option.

I wonder can the return line be just re-used on the new fpr?

I did this job once on my 98 V70 and re-used the lines. It was slightly different than yours because on the V70 the FPR is down on the rack but it is the same small FPR with lines on both ends of it. It was difficult to get the FPR separated from the lines because everything was brittle and access was poor. Hair dryer is good like abscate said.

I can send that in an envelope pretty cheaply. Brass barbs and the connector will fit

Warming the nylon line with hot water and then clamping with a smal oetiker clamp is solid

Thanks guys....so hot water,hairdryer and a screwdriver.
;)
I have a heat gun from window tinting bussiness that i had....can it be used to heat the return line in order to pull it off easier?
Is it a good idea since there still will be gas in the line?

Just crimp the fuel line closed so you don’t drain the tank.

A hot air source will be way below the flashpoint of gasoline so it’s safe to warm those fittings up

I cut off the barbs and thus only heated empty lines

Why would i drain the tank?
Heat gun have 300-600 degrees Celsius hot air.

Here is my FPR near the fuel filter:
