Hey guys,
I got a 1997 S70 T5 with upgraded 9 blade 16T core running around 10psi with standard exhaust and intake/filter...
So my fuel pump was playing up (engine would be misfiring and eventually stalled). Today I went to wrecking yard and got a second hand fuel pump from 850 SE NA setup, after installing the pump the engine started but its still misfiring under boost. The pump itself looks to be different size (lot bigger) then what I originally have in my S70, so my question is, is there a difference in flow rate between NA and Turbo pumps for these cars?
The only reason I got a used one was because I needed to get the car going as its due for rego this week but I also been looking to get a brand new one to replace it with. From what I been reading many of the aftermarket pumps do not fit perfectly into 850/S70 fuel pump housing and the housing need to be modified.
So which one have you used to replace your faulty pump with and did you have to do any modifications to fit it? The brand choices we have here are GOSS GE265, ULTRE-TECH (generic unit) or Bosch 9438003 which I can get from FCP.
Thanks

You could check one of the Volvo parts suppliers first for a listing for the NA pump, and then for the turbo pump and see if they list the same part number.
When I did mine I had to enlarge the opening in the plastic carrier basket, or what ever it's called. The new pump has a larger diameter than stock. But it was easy to do with a drill and a small sanding drum. Maybe 10 min start to finish.

For stock cars...they are the same for n/a & turbo.
If i remember correctly...for AWD cars...it's different.

Agreed, FWD turbo and NA use the same pump, 94-00.

I would say '92-'98(including '98).
'99 & '00 have denso management!
Fuel pumps should be different since fuel pressure is different.

Nope, for P80 cars the Denso (99 and 00) and Bosch management systems use the same fuel pump. I first learned this by pulling them at junkyards, I have a couple pumps from later years that I have used in my 850s. Do a parts lookup it will tell you the same thing.
Fuel pressure is determined by fuel pressure regulator, not the fuel pump, as long as the pump supplies enough minimum pressure.
I just never bother to refer to 93 (North American) 850 compatibilities because they are so uncommon and have several quirky one-off parts, and I never bothered to learn which ones.

Thanks guys for your replies, after driving the car for 30mins or so everything seems to be working fine now, at the beginning it did miss couple of times where I was stopped at the traffic light but at the end it seem to sort itself out... still not sure whats going on.. perhaps combination of bad batch of fuel, worn Platinum spark plugs and faulty fuel pump.
I'll driver it next couple of days and see how it goes, the second hand pump from 850 NA seems to be working fine in my turbo setup.

Might want to swap the fuel filter soon. Could be getting plugged which could cause some other nonsense.

But of an update, drove the car for good hour with around 15-20min idling in between and everything seems to be working fine, mo misses or hesitation must of been a combination of bad fuel, fuel pump and the spark plugs... thanks for everyone help.
Next project is to fix up the broken mounts on the dash and replace the header core... fun time ahead.
