You can’t move ECM units in Volvo’s after 1998
Ok, would my ecm work with any of the 2.5T Volvo's? My u-pull now has 5 2.5t's of various years. I've been searching
for the last two hours for an engine compatibility list, with no luck.

I can't afford to spend money on this engine rebuild and a replacement engine. If I had some certainty that my engine
only needs a gasket, great. On the other hand, if I knew that u-pull had an engine that would work that would be great too.

Thanks

Well I did it. In my driveway. Yes, it was only a bad head gasket.

It looked pretty bad. The "leak" around #3 appeared to have been the worst but, 2 & 4 were a close second.
I feared the warpage had ruined the head. Luckily, when measured with a straight edge, it was only .22mm L & .08mm W.
Within spec but not great.

I used a plate and sandpaper to nudge the gap down to .05mm L & .00 W.

She's back together and running better than when I got her.

Thank you,

Thanks for sharing and posting photos. It's a big enough job by itself let along taking photos along the way; always appreciated this. Nice work.

Volvo horns awarded for removing 6 thou of warp with sandpaper!

That’s dedication !

Did you use new head bolts? That’s recommended by Volvo but I’ve always wondered if they are truly in the deformation limit

I’m getting ready to pull the head off my sons 04 s60. I’ve done 2 others. It’s 98. Do I need to align marks on the crank before pulling this apart like i did when doing the other two?

Thanks

Yes, loosen the big crank nut first, then set crank and cams to the marks , before removing head

That’s what I thought. I got the coil plugs and top cover removed then I thought I should check on this. Thank you.

If you have removed the timing belt you will have to juggle the cams and crank back to the marks individually. Don’t force anything. Don’t freak if the touch, you won’t damage them if you keep pressure light.
