Um, yes! If you want to wash the engine of a pre-99 P80 with a distributor, ALWAYS tie a plastic bag around the distributor and tape it up to prevent water entering it. Unfortunately you have learned the hard way. Also try to minimise water in that area if possible.

Hopefully it is not too bad. Removing the cap and drying it all off with a hairdryer should hopefully return to normal service. I wish you luck.

On the headlights, have you checked the internal wiring in the headlight units? The wiring does melt with age and can cause shorts.

Neil.

Location of fuses

11A and 11B reside under the kidney shaped fuse cover attached to the strut tower

11C is under the flip cover near the dashboard cowl

Could the headlight problem not be the infamous light switch issue? I remember I lost high beams when that happened to me, although it may have just been failing to latch and still coming on as long as the lever was pulled back, don't remember 100%.

So I finally hit this up today with some great help - because you can't play with the lights while using a multimeter.

In my reseating of fuses I ended up with no turn signals or hazard lights. Not good...

Big problem source -- corrosion in the fuse box. Both the fuses and the terminals were rather bad. Some of that was able to be wire brushed off with a dremel. Then one low beam light blew -- H7. Replaced it. All good. May polish the glass on the the outer lens in the near future. May also try spraying the reflectors with chrome paint this spring and see it that helps them along.

Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
