Indeed, the two scales intersect at -40.
-40 degree Celsius = -40 degree Fahrenheit

My car sits outside because the truck and wife's car live in the garage. The Volvo will start without being plugged in as low as -38 which is great but it makes me cringe thinking about the wear that is happening for the first few minutes!

One thing I install on every vehicle we own is an oil pan heater. I learned it from the Eskimos in AK :)
Spinning that crankshaft through honey takes a lot out of the battery.
I once measured the dipstick temp when we had a cold spell. It had been -30F for ~2 weeks. I left the hood ajar the night before (because replacing hood cables isn’t fun & an almost certainty if you try it when it’s that cold!), had the heater on a timer for ~2 hours prior to startup. Dipstick temp measured with a IR thermometer was a balmy 63* :D
The car was parked outside as well & definitely good & cold soaked!

It is ±10 in our area, hence a dog walk is limited to as soon as she is done.

FWIW, the annual oil and filter change has been Nov/Dec for many years now -- Pennzoil EURO 5w40. Also, it is plugged to a trickle charger overnight in our driveway when temps are below freezing, using:
