Not saying that it is for a stock set up. But in my case it makes sense. Old engine with mods that build more pressure that needs a place to go. I'd heard of them before, but when the indy mechanic that I had diagnose and fix my intercooler problem " strongly " recommended I run one, I looked into them more. Pro : Engine breaths better and doesn't have all that crap run through it, so it lasts longer. Con : It can smell sometimes, particularly sitting in traffic.
But I never do that :)

Better off getting that garbage out of your engine! It’s all getting recycled with the used oil, so you might as well help out your engine.

Narrowly avoided disaster. There was a bit of crud in the orifice, thought it was a T25. Finally took the whole thing out, housing and all. Heat, juice, heat, juice b, heat, juice c, T27, DeWalt.

That definitely looks like a -98 oil engine oil thermostat. Before you re-fit, make sure the 2 'O' ring seal wells are spotlessly clean where the oil cooler lines go. They leak as the plate bends with age and can build up a layer of sharp crusty oil that can shred the 'o' rings when re-fitting.

Well I had the indy shop do it since they had everything all apart and seemed to know what they were doing, especially regarding turbos. Pretty simple as I recall;
Trap box still in place on the block, but the large hose coming off the top of it goes to the catch can instead of the PTC. That's the hose coming up through the intake. The hose that comes from the head also goes directly to the can instead of the stock trap box.
Both ports on the PTC are capped off as is the small port on the passengers side of the intake. And there is a drain hose with a small lever valve coming off the bottom of the can for easy draining. Can has a tab that mounts to the battery tray. I have found that putting a old sock over the breather element stops any oily vapors from making any sort of mess, as well as acting as a pre-filter. I figure that after I get the engine issues sorted out this summer, I will modify the hose coming off the head so I can put my spark boot cover back on, but I think I will keep running the can system regardless.
