I know bad control arm bushings will click just as you move the car forward from a stop, or just as you shift the car backward after moving forward. If it is flopping up and down when ball joint is disconnected from the spindle then they are indeed shot, if that's what you are seeing I agree with your original call. When disconnected from the spindle the A-arm should stick out and sort of bob up and down under pressure.

Well it appears to me that all my front end components look to be original from 98. With 137000 on the car I may as well change out everything. For several hundred bucks it will be done. I already did the struts , shocks, rotors, brakes, and sway bar links. Thanks for all your help. Big job but i’ll get there. Thanks again.
