In wonder if this is similar to the infamous "burned valve" issue we see in P80 cars (1993-1997 850, 1998-200 s70, V70 etc.)...Most commonly cylinder #3...

Next: do a compression test, dry and wet.

If you had bottom end damage, you wouldn't be asking about it. You'd be diving for cover and tightening your helmet.

If you have piston damage, you'll have zero compression, but you'll see that with the boroscope.

+1 compression test is next. If it's down, pull the head, strip it, send it out to have the valve seats lapped, and when you put it back together, replace any damaged valves.

research says they fitted the faulty engine killing banjo bolts from 2005 2.5ltr, so my 2001 2.4ltr should be safe? its going to be a while until i can remove and check it.

Thanks for sharing that info. I didn't know about the banjo bolt problem.

With the latest banjo bolt design it looks like the retaining pin is held in place with a through hole crosswise in the bolt. I believe this bolt has 2014 on the head if you want(can) to check which banjo design currently installed in the manifold.

Well damn, when I did my PCV last summer, mine was the old style and all I did was clean it out w/ some carb cleaner. I already had an alternator pulley and decoupler tool in my FCP cart. I just added the new banjo bolt. I should be able to get to it okay w/ the alternator out. Pulley job just got extended.

Good for you.. I wish I would've known about the stupid bolt back when I replaced my PCV parts years ago..

Anyone knows it I can just disconnect the exhaust manifold and pull the head out or should I also remove the turbo?
