:( Well, thanks to help here I got he panel off the hatch without opening the hatch. the locking mechanism works but I cannot open the hatch. I can pull on the arm that the door latches move but the hatch will not release. I cannot get to the bolts between the hatch and car to release lock. Is there so way for me to get the hatch open so I change the locking mechanism.
