And oh, sorry, if you are doing the work yourself, I'd start with the brakes as they are easier to work with. However, yes some 'going bad' CV joints will make noise, but it's more 'rythmic' than just a continuous grinding - you may be OK with just swapping pads.

You can also swap right/left rotors and see if the noise changes.

It could be the inner, plastic fender rubbing on the wheel. The plastic nuts can pop off, leaving the fender to sag onto the wheel. It happened to me because in tight turns the wheel was striking the fender and moving it, which stressed and popped the nuts.

Your English is very good. I would not have known it wasn't your first language.

Try lifting the front of the car and spining the wheel manualy in neutral... (choke the wheels and put the handbrake on ) Equip yourself with a recorder that has input/output and a good mic and headphones, now keep the wheel spining while you put the mic in different places and listen on your headphones. Another good It could be the bearing in the front hub. Im by no means a volvo expert I dont even have a volvo ( not yet anyway ) but this worked for me while trying to fix a few other cars i own.

Tom

Hi guys

I just wanted to let you know that my problem is solved. I turned to an experienced mechanic who came to the conclusion that the wheel bearing was at fault. The bearing was changed and the irritating sound has wanished. At a cost of around 500 $ but well worth it I think.

I just wanted to thank you for your comments in trying to help me solve this problem.
