Over the years I have followed some oil threads on another site and taken advantage of some crazy oil sales here in the US that has allowed me to create a stash of various brands of "synthetic" oil in various weights at near 0 cost and in some cases, betting paid to take the oil (ie net profit after rebate). I put synthetic due to the definition of synthetic here in US.

So what I really have done is create a stash of oils that are a blend of group III and group IV oils that are labeled as synthetic in the US/North America vs what is called synthetic in Europe.

I have used various Mobil 1 offerings, QuakerState, Pennzoil and Castrol offerings. All "synthetic" and in the 5W-30, 10W-30, 10W-40 and 5W-40 viscosity. I use 10W in summer and 5W in winter.

I generally change the oil ever 5K miles but went a full year last year with how little I was driving my car due to COVID.

I have so much oil now that I have about a 30 year supply for our own cars. I now am offering oil changes to friends.

Time to call Hollywood and cast the Oil Hoarders Reality TV series and cash in, amblerman

Will Sara spill the synthetic?

Will Victors Viscosity run true?

Will David’s Detergent dirty the dishes?

See next week on ……Big Oil Brother!!

Sara coked her turbo in synthetic because she didn't allow it to idle for 30 seconds before turning the car off =P

Yeah, things called synthetic in the USA are abysmal as maybe only 10% truly are by definition synthetic.

Don't think it makes a ton of difference. I will stay with fully synthetic and 0w40, I only change it once a year (don't drive too much).
Used Castrol for a long time, but they got very expensive and started to sell "HC synthetic" with near identical packaging, so I stopped buying that.
Have used LiquiMoly (too expensive), Mobil 1 (sludge), Meguin, now mostly Mannol.
Mannol is cheap and seems to work fine, so I think I'll stay with them for now. Honestly, in these old cars, almost anything should be fine. I just make sure to use fully synthetic and I like to get 0w40.

I tried an engine flush additive some time ago and was surprised by all the crap that came out, so I'm now also doing that every change.

I've heard of it before, but never experienced it. I've used M1 for years without any issues. Occasionally with very long intervals.
