Oh wow-
You've been there!
Other than the broken bolt which looked exactly like your M8 mine have been sort of clean.
But who knows whats going on in this last bracket bolt.

I got to say- something stupid just happened.
I had unbolted the lower timing cover piece- and pushed it up and over- out of the way for access to the smaller bolt on the bracket right?
Well, I forgot about it- should have removed it- and started the engine to move the car more into my space.
I heard and odd plastic snapping sound and Yup the serpentine belt cut that piece in half. I can even see some shaped grooves in the plastic.
My serpentine seems fine.
Question though even though the Actual timing belt cover/shield is still on - lower tabs in place- there isn't any way that piece snapping could damage anything right?

Really check the serpentine belt. If it has got a cut in it from the plastic it could let go. It has been known to take out the timing belt cover and the timing belt with expensive results.

The only other possibility is it it has nicked the front main oil seal.

So check carefully.

It seems that the very top of the tread of the belt cut into the plastic and at first few looks - seems perfect so I think - no cuts.
But I will check thoroughly.
The actual main part of the timing belt cover is thoroughly intact - which means the timing belt is safe - yes?
Being that- that piece sits behind the crankshaft pulley?
Do you have a shot of where that seal is?

The seal is right behind the crank pulley.

The timing belt cover should be fine. The issue is if the serpentine belt is cut and it breaks, it can then take out the timing belt cover and then the timing belt iself.

My dudes!

Ta-da!
Out with the old in with the new.
Heat- Pb Blaster and time- that remaining bolt came out just like it's supposed this morning.

I think I got lucky with my serpentine belt it looks really healthy no tears- but there are a few small nicks seen in the picture- but on the very top of the tread.
If that is all there is- am I good?
I took the timing belt cover over just to be sure and it's nice and tidy in there.

I do have a question about the serpentine tensioner pulley-

Here's a link to a short video of it- https://photos.app.goo.gl/XM796TrFBmhRR1RaA

It seems somewhat wobbly? I don't think I ever looked at it closely before I assume as a tensioner it will move a bit,
but if you could all take a look I would really appreciate it.

I've said it before I can't thank everyone here enough, helping me sort this out in my rainy apt parking space has meant a lot to me.

Well done that man! You persevered and overcame! Threads look nice too.

I would monitor that nick. For the cost of a serpentine belt v's a wrecked engine I would consider replacing it.

I found the 'bouncing' of the tensioner can be a sign it is getting to the end of life. The bearing may be good, but I have found the usual death of them is when they are old and you crank on them to remove the serpentine belt the spring goes.

On the belt, I would mark it if you can on the edge of the belt so it is easy to find if you plan to monitor the condition and any change of the next few weeks.

Thank you very Much!
It was a battle.
Good idea marking the cam.
I will keep an eye on it.
The belt is new as of two years ago, but maybe next summer I just replace that tensioner and throw on a new belt. I believe both should be more than ok until then, none the less I will check in on it. I couldn't find another mark on the belt anywhere and I even looked with my horoscope.

I believe the bracket is aligned properly maybe it's slight off a fraction hard to tell with the new part but new bolts threaded in perfectly. Orange loctite on the 14 mm. The 10mm came with its own white smear.
See what you think.

Yeah so-
I f*cked up my inner CV I believe
Didn't think it was jacked too high but I heard a kind of pop and nowI get the crunch turning a bit and reverse to drive.
I cant believe this repair has gone.
I've never had so many things go wrong.
And to top it- it was the wrong bracket after I got on and went to fit the mount the subframe opening just wouldn't align with the pad - so I took it all off again and compared - virtually identical- Parts Dept at Volvo dealership said it was correct but it was not.
So- I will deal with that return and the right part on Monday.

But I have to tell you I think I am out for a bit with extensive car repair in my parking space.
What kind of price should I expect to replace this right-side CV/axle?

I also had that issue several years ago where what the system said and what I had were different. Sorry to hear you got hit with 2 issues. Crap.

Do you know if your axles are the originals? The knuckles can sometimes be refitted, but will probably require removal of the larger end of the CV boot. Volvo OE axles if they are still good are worth fitting new boots on and keeping where possible.

After market axles are very hit and generally miss. If time is important to get the car running again, maybe a replacement axle is worthwhile and then keep the original and get a boot to re-build later.
