Are you going to put the B valve body on your car or just the solenoids? If just the solenoids, check the resistance on them and that the pintle is moving freely and then install them as they were on your 2003 valve body. I would also get a TransGo kit and disassemble the solenoids and clean out the bushing bores with the drill bits the kit provides before reinstallation. The amount of work required to get to the valve body on your car is such that you probably only want to do it once!

I'd say it takes only twice longer to swap the whole transmission than just the valve body in this car.

So has anybody confirmed what YEAR Maxima would have the pan gasket for this repair? For the life of me I can't find one listed that looks like the correct shape for our transmissions! Would love to have all the parts on hand for doing the TransGo kit in my X/C before my kit arrives in a week or so.

Thank you for the Transtec # that picture looks way more accurate. Vtl, when you say "don't use pan gasket, use sealant" are you meaning just a Permatex adhesive to hold gasket in place or the RTV? Most posts advise against the RTV as it gets smeared putting cover back on thus the suggestion of using a gasket.

Use just Permatex transmission sealant to form a gasket. My Transtec gasket started weeping in a few months, and I've heard similar complains. Not sure whether the gasket for inadvertently deformed, or shrunk over time, or the material soaked through.
Add the sealant to both mating surfaces to be safe.

Pull up pictures to confirm It is a common gasket and you can even bring the pan in if in doubt..
I don't like RTV because it is a pain to clean up. If you have any issues with your rebuild and have to go back in you get to do clean up twice. There is not a ton of space to work with and any of that sealant can cause issues.
Volvo uses RTV on theirs and a number of others use a gasket - so they both are a viable option.
I have done three with gaskets and never a leak.
