Yes, you can blow through the mesh from the valve body suction side port and I tried this way first, air and cleaner repeatedly, It worked for about 100 miles before the filter clogged up again. I think it just open up a small area of the clogged filter surface. The bottle brush contacting and scrubbing the mesh surface was needed to loosen the friction fibers stuck to the mesh, I was surprised how well the crud was clinging to the mesh. With the brush I was also able to reach and clean a much larger area of the filter mesh. You do need the access hole for the brush method though.

Right, that's why I mentioned kerosene under pressure :) Just a cleaner spray is not enough.

Maybe even heated low viscous ATF under pressure to avoid ATF dilution with non-ATF liquid?

How's the transmission working with declogged filter? Like normal again or does it still have some hiccups? That's a lot of clutch material coming from somewhere.

I think there are a couple of years on the “ punched out filter” thread now.

After a while it when from dripping in the hole to a steady stream. Maybe I removed some dirt in the filter so even more oil could be drained.
How are things going?

Huge thanks everyone…

My gearbox is now working again, but let's give it a couple of days before I celebrate :)
Purchased the M14 x 1.25 oil plug from my local Volvo dealer
Borrowed the M14 tap and a tool to get a nice even surface from work ( called a Granlund in Swedish :) )

I didn't invest in a inspection camera so I cant say how clean the filter got, but now its quite easy to do the process all over again.
If this works it must have been the cheapest repair so far.
Used the measurement 31mm and 25.5 and that was perfect position to get in to the filter :)

Nice work and good to hear your gearbox is working again. Just curious, before the filter clogged up completely you originally had problems with a 3-4 shift delay/flare, did this shift problem get any better with the filter cleaning?

Did you use a bottle brush to clean the filter mesh?

The first 20 min of the test drive I was driving quite slow and the flare was gone :) Did a harder acceleration close to home and the flare was back but maybe a little bit better. Let's give it a couple of days to settle, the downshifts and some up shifts feels a little bit rough. Might need to re adapt to new pressure.

I used a straw cleaning brush and bottle brush and lost of Breakleen ....

Yes, there will need to be some adaptation time needed because it probably was adapted to a lower pressure from a gradually clogging filter.

The car is still working just "fine".....but now to the bad news.
It's almost impossible to explain with my poor English, and it won't show on a move clip :)

But changing to 4th gear the car now vibrates for a second as the shift is preformed.
This hole thing started when I did manual shift to 4th gear from 5 on a uphill.
Could that have slipped the clutch that much that the filter clogged immediately ?

I have driven with a flaring gearbox 3 to 4 almost 2 years....
Have looked at a lot of tear down videos lately of the AW55 :)
I feel quite confident I can rebuild the gearbox with good instructions....
But what should I get?
