As Scott 850 has so aptly pointed out (more than once) the oil pan pick up tube O rings are highly suspect. Maybe you can check oil pressure? Let's assume we are talking about lifter tick and not some other origin noise. Classic symptoms are goes away with spirited driving (your oil pressure increased) comes back when idles (your oil pressure drops). Not so noticed immediately after a start (oil pressure is higher) but 15 minutes later as oil thins, (pressure drops). Abscate will tell you it's not a bad lifter. I'm willing to stand corrected on both counts...but only if I am wrong. After multiple oil changes and numerous additives, I replaced the O rings and, voila, lifter tick gone. The only thing that might possibly go against this is your relatively low miles. I think I went 250k before doing mine. Do not tear your engine apart until you have done this repair first, without success. Yeah, sure, take a compression test along the way.

I'm ordering the o-rings kit, anaerobic sealer, and gasket solvent now that I'm off nights. Last night after I drove to work I tried listening yet again with the naked ear, and had a coworker listen as a fresh set of ears, and this time the sound definitely seemed to be coming from the oil cap. I'm not saying don't change the gaskets/o-rings, but if it is a single lifter having the issue, and the rest is working correctly - do you really think it is an oil pressure issue?

Since I got rescheduled for work, and we've had some pretty cold days, I just brought it to a local Volvo/Saab place. He listened to it and the way it was cycling he was sure it was the oil pan, so for $500 he dropped the pan, cleaned the pan, pickup screen, oil passages, and replaced all the o-rings. Ticking noise is gone, and he also confirmed the oil pressure light works, so at least I know that.
I think with having done everything else so far besides an alignment myself on this car, I'd pay for this.
Now the only problem is driving my other car made me realize how much I missed having even a low pressure turbo and a dashboard that's more intact than broken.

Glad you found a solution. Many owners do not realise the issue this can cause over time. Rubber does not last for ever in heat and oil and hydraulic lifters are more likely to tick than the solid ones in the later cars.

It's a reasonable job to pass on. I had someone do my last Volvo that needed said repair. I also passed on my head gasket, burnt valve and am glad I did, as a bunch of other stuff was discovered that needed attention along the way. We all need to cut ourselves a break and be okay with it.

I can relate to that.. once you go turbo it is hard to go back

You know, I am seriously considering going back to an NA and no AWD. Working on the low mileage V70 NA a couple of days ago and when it started up its engine was so nice and smooth. The 00 V70 NA I sold I still regret and my buddy who bought it just loves that car. I can't use the performance of the turbo car, especially in the tuned form it was as bought. We do mostly city driving these days and any longer trips if bad weather comes can be done in the Toyota if needed.

With two turbos and two NAs in my P80 fleet the B———S engines are silky smooth beasts, and I don’t miss the extra stuff and access when servicing.
