Mast Removal

I ordered a new antenna mast for my 760 and it came in today. Took a look at the packaging that came with it and started to follow the ones on the bag that the antenna came in. It had me undo the "bushing" which I interpreted as the top screw. However there is a gold piece at the base of the antenna that looks as though it could be unscrewed, tried to do that I think I may have stripped it. Then, I took a look at these instructions, http://ipdusa.com/uploads/sku_files/2255_INST.PDF and have undone the screws, but the antenna rod will not come out of its place.

Does it just take some elbow grease and some WD40 to get it out, or am I going about it the wrong way?

I just replaced my mast, so I understand what you are going through. Once the bushing is removed, you need some needle-nose pliers to grab a-hold of the antenna that is stuck down in there. There is no unscrewing needed, just pull it out of there. The easiest way is to get it out is to have someone turn on the radio while you pull. As the motor is trying to raise the antenna it will help push out the mast.

Make sure you get it all out of there. Putting it back... push the white plastic end with the teeth down in the now empty hole as far as you can and have someone turn off the radio. Begin rotating the white cable it will grab and start to pull the mast in. At this point turn the radio on and off and let the antenna motor go through its cycle. Eventually the antenna will go all the way in the hole and come all the way out.

Once its in there screw back on the bushing.

Thanks for the reply. I did try that trick but it would not let go I then tried the ipd instructions but after undoing the two screws, the tube will just not budge at all. I'm thinking of just replacing the whole motor as the whole reason for replacing the mast was that the fattest piece of the antenna went up, the second piece was frozen in place, then the last part came up so I'm thinking there's a bend somewhere in there.

Is the motor running when you turn on the radio? Can you hear it whining back there? If so then buying a new motor is really not necessary. I would take apart the motor and see if you can get whatever is stuck in there out, before buying a whole new motor. Also I would not give up on just pulling the crap out of it.

Oh yeah, the motor works like a champ, the only problem was that the mast would only go up 2/3 of the way, but it would retract without a problem. I'll take another crack at pulling the antenna tube out again.
