UEM
Needing some straight info, 05 Volvo XC90 UEM. I broke it trying to replace the glass. The car still starts but the upper lights, sunroof don’t work and I get a SRS urgent service message with the code that says SRS cannot link to UEM. Also get a CEM code that it can’t link to UEM. I sent it to XEMOD and they could not connect to it. What will happen if I put a used mirror with the same part number on it.

If you put UEM with same number, it will works except your original remotes.
There are options for solve this point:
1. if your remotes worked with your original UEM in the past and Xemodex did not delete some data from your original UEM, there is option to transfer data from your original UEM to used one.
2. You can buy NEW remotes but official dealer will not able to program it to used UEM, you can ask aftermarket solutions for this.
3. If you dont want to buy new remotes, you can send your original remotes to smart guys for reset it to new condition and next use option 2 again.
4. Also there is online option for case if you have DiCE.

The remote did work at one time, but has not in a while. It did not work previous to me taking mirror apart to change glass. I no doubt must have broken some solder connections but it is not obvious where. XEMOD sent the mirror back, said they would refund the fee less a diagnostic fee but I still have seen no refund. So if I want remotes to work, I pretty much need new mirror with UEM and let Volvo program it. I have no access to VIDA, it is expensive beyond being worthwhile to buy

Is DiCE the only J2534 interface you can do remote programing with?

Could you please explain the online option. I have purchased a new UEM/Mirror assembly and new key fobs with keys. I can get a dice, do I also need the VIDA software if I use The Online Data Transfer Service?
PO - I wish I had researched further before using XEMODEX. The cost of the new module is less from Volvo Webstore than the service plus shipping with no quarantees.

You need DiCE Hardware, the DiCE drivers and Skype at a minimum. But anybody that has DiCE is going to install VIDA also.
Once a Remote desktop connection is established with Skype they will install a DiCE helper application on your computer that works like a USB over IP. This gives them access to your DiCE from their remote location.
They can do the work with software on their computer or use the Remote desktop to run ViDA installed on your computer. Skype is also used to communicate with you during the process.
Did your new Fobs and Keys come with a Seed ID numbers and Transponder ID numbers? These are printed on a card that comes with them. If you don't have the numbers the new Fobs and Keys are useless.

Yes, they did and I still have the card with all the info that came with the one that we have been using. The remote locks had quit working some time ago, but it still unlocks the doors and starts the car. So is the programming for the new never used UEM one software program and charge, programming the keyfobs another software and charge , and the key programming to start the car a third software and charge, each with additional charges for labor? That’s how I understand it from OSteen Volvo. $180 labor plus $80 software charge for UEM, another $180 labor plus $80 software for keyfobs for remote locks, and another $95 plus $65 software charge to program the keys. $680 for about 1 hour. Now you see why I am investigating other options.
