What engine does a 2000 V70R have?

I have e-mailed and talked to FCP multiple times to ask them to fix an error on their website which insists my car has a 2.3l engine. Problem is the 2000 'R' has a B5244T2 which is a 2434cc engine and not the 2300cc engine. IPD lists it correctly. Most aftermarket suppliers also list is wrongly.

Problem comes that they offer you the wrong engine parts when you search on their websites.

Can anyone confirm the US models also got the same engine?

I just took a look at the Volvo website and it looks like FCP is correct.
The 2000 R runs the HP 2.3 - Here are some links:

2000 V70R engine is the B5244T2. The R was a special package. Often Vendors don't get it right or don't bother because it can be so much more work just to cover a low production trim. Diminished return on investment. Even Volvo does not always get it right the information right for the R.

Try decoding a VIN for a 2004 V70R or S60R. In 2004 there was no VIN engine code for the B5254T4 so Volvo kludged it. In 2005 they changed the VIN engine code they used in 2004 R to mean B5254T4 for the 2005 R model. I looks like this could be the case for you too because I am not finding a VIN engine code for the B5244T2. The B5244T2 was used for one year and one model, the 2000 Volvo V70 R AWD. Volvo probably kludged the VIN engine code for the 2000 like they did for the 2004.

Thanks guys. Problem often can be added to because of marketplaces where cars are sold. Transmissions are another thing this can determine.

The 2.3 liter as I understand it ran to 1999 MY and then the 2.4 was a one year only (2000), just like the 5-speed auto and R spec only rear brakes. What I can't figure is what is fitted in other countries. I would have been surprised if the US was different to Canada for the most part on cars and specs, although we don't seem to sell many base spec cars with cloth interiors. Yes they exist but not as common as leather.

Try running your VIN number through Volvo Tech's VIN decoder and see what engine it decodes to.

Position 6- 7 in the VIN number is the Engine Code. What does your VIN have for the engine code ? I am not finding a VIN engine code for the B5244T2

B5244T2 is in the timing cover.

According to the VIN decoder, from what Rick says my engine has is a '60' code in the VIN. I can't find that in the various codes lists I can find. In those there is a 59 and a 61 but no 60???

The link you give Rick does not give any engine info when I put in my Vin #. The Vin# in Vida gives the engine as a B5244T2 as well.

Now I can see why this is such a can of worms I probably should not have opened!!

Found a 2000 VIN breakdown at the The Volvo Owners' Club UK that looks complete. Except it shows the US Check figure instead of the gearbox on position #8.

Mine says the same thing. B5244T2, P/N 1236369, Ser# 1902564
