Fuel pump gasket not sealing

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Fuel pump gasket not sealing

Post by SUPERBRIK »

I am having an issue after replacing the fuel pump in my ‘05 S80 (T5 auto, FWD). I am thinking of adding a thin gasket to the fuel pump so the pressure ring will have a better seal.. and stop sucking air around the seal.
Anyone have experience with this issue?

Are the threads to the locking ring clean and nothing to keep the ring elevated?
A drop of soap on the threads so you can torque the rings good.

I am using anti-seize on the threads, have made sure the fuel pump is pressed equally and centered; have the remover tool; cleaned the channel of the regular gasket; and have tried the old and new aftermarket gaskets.. I recently got a gasket from Volvo directly and will try that.. nothing seems to work to make a full seal..

Hold back on "nothing seems to work" until you try the Volvo gasket.
I can see now both old and aftermarket gaskets might not seal.

Some of the cheap aftermarket gaskets are cheap because they skip on the details .. like temperature coefficients. Some try to mold the gasket the finial size not taking into account shrinkage after the part cools. That is the problem with copying parts using the plug molding method. Most materials shrink when they phase change from a liquid to a solid.

Forgot to update on this.. Volvo and Bosch seals were identical.. what sounded to be an air leak/no seal situation was actually a starving fuel pump due to the FPS (fuel pressure sensor) that was errant and had been replaced.. changed out the FPS, and problem was solved!
Thank you all for your replies!!
