Oil pump Topic is solved

Oil pump

So if I'm rebuilding the engine, should I go ahead and replace the oil pump even though it's good ?
On other non-Volvo engines I have done, I replaced it, regardless. But at over $300 for a pump, which is over 3 times what I'd expect, I don't want to spend that, if all was/ is good.
Thoughts ?

Sounds good. While you're in there order a crate motor from Volvo too.

So are you trying to say i should replace the pump ? From what I've read, they very rarely fail.
And why would I need another motor ??

Sorry bad joke.
Just replace the gasket behind the pump and you're good.

I would go with the odds on this oil pump. Do not replace unless you had 300K miles on the pump or know it ingested some crap.

I thought the Volvo crate motor idea was funny.

I have never heard or seen a broken oil pump on a "newer" Volvo. Ever.
