We now know what the popping was. It was compression existing through the intake valve.

Should not be too much of a chore. You British have a long history of putting heads on the block.

Lol yeah we do. I'm gonna look for a refurbished one on eBay. Getting the exhaust manifold removed will be a pain taking job.

Thanks for help with getting to the bottom of this issue.
Could I please get your brain on this one....I put everything back. Engine cranks but wouldn't start. I think ECU connection issue? No warning lights - just wouldn't start.

When I started (cranked) it first, it sounded like a fan working. Kept on cranking with 5 sec intervals. After the 5th crank it started to crank how a proper starting up would sound and thats it....

I have to mention this...Further to what I've said above, I didnt crank it continuously. In the end, first came Battery low message followed by engine system service required. Thats when I plugged the scanner and got the code.

Is it okay keep cranking for a over a minute? This wouldn't knacker the starter motor?

I've put the battery to charge overnight.

Clearly a electrical issue. Check your electrical connections.

The injector valve codes are all open circuit. Did you reconnect the electrical wiring back up?
The Glow plug can also be open circuit or high resistance. Did you reconnect the electrical wiring back up?

Yeah, I ran through all the connections multiple times.

I disconnected the battery well before working on things and then connected it back only after everything was put back, just before cranking.

Get the battery charged back up. When you reconnect the battery. Positive first, turn key to POS II ( Run ), connect Negative. That will force the control modules to reinitialize.

Morning Rick, Hope your weekend is going all good as planned.

No luck...I tried your way but still the same. Just a thought...Could I have placed the camshaft incorrectly? Like just 1 tooth misaligned?

Removed everything again and checked. Single dot on the intake shaft (right) is in the middle of double dots on the exhaust shaft, as shown in the pic.

I didn't do the camshaft adjustment as per VIDA. This could be the reason for not starting?
