Tailgate wiring

I have a 2005 Volvo V70. I want to install a backup camera and I want to know if there is a 12v source that is 'on' anytime the ignition switch is in the 'run' position. I have a wireless camera setup and would like to avoid having to snake a wire through the hinge harness to the fuse panel.
Thanks for the great information available on your website. I'm a retired Volvo master technician and I still find valuable tidbits almost every time I log on.

In my XC70, there's a 12V harness taped on the side panel carpet under the window which is supposed to service a 12V cigarette lighter plug if the car shipped with a third seat. I imagine you could just add the fuse and splice into there. Check your fusebox diagram.

Oops I just read TAILGATE... my bad... the only 12V sources in there would be the wiper motor which is only actuated when the relay calls or the top LED strip brake light, neither are ideal. Perhaps someone smarter than me can chime in.

Also license plate light, lock solenoid, and there might be a12v supply to the micro switch that detects tailgate open…

My guess is that goes in to a Dantes inferno o’clock controller and DIM hell.

there should be an empty fuse slot in the rear fuse panel, the aux 12v output (rear cig lighter) should be available .

you will need to run wires though the hinge rubber grommet for the video signal?..unless your attempting those wireless setups, i tested one and its rubbish video quality.
