Documented where you can check that your cylinder head and your cam cover are a matched set.

They are stamped with small four numbers on the rear of the head and cover - they are faint,

The lore here is that cylinder heads and cam covers have to be precision machined and can’t be swapped.

Has anyone ever tested this by putting trying a non-matched over on a head
?

Cam journal bearing clearance isn’t as critical as crank and rod bearings , fir certain.

^ Machine shop that is doing my engine told me the same thing. They insisted that I bring the cover along with its bolts so they could machine / match to the head, even though they're original to this engine. Never heard of that, but didn't argue.
