Access to interior from engine bay?

Post by denon2005 »

Hi,

I have got a VOLVO S40 2.0T - 2000 'x'

I need to run a 12v feed from the battery to run an amplifier in the boot / trunk.

Can anyone tell me where I can get access.

From previous cars I presume there is a rubber 'grommet' somewhere but I can't find it.

I have a right hand drive model but I'm not sure whether this matters.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

The grommet you need is on the right hand side as you look at the engine bay. it is about 50mm across and leads through to behind the glove box in the pasengers footwell. on my '97 v40 there was a fuse box above it but that is easily moved while you work.

on mine it was a nightmare to get out but if you use the end of a plastic scrubbing brush with a hook on it you can push it through between the grommet and the metal and hook the edge of the grommet and pull it out.

hope that helps (if a little late!!)

Thanks Chris - nah, it's always worth posting an answer, even if it is late.

I did, however, discover this grommet for myself after a few minutes on my knees with a torch. You are right, it is a bit of a nightmare, in the end, I just poked a screwdriver through the side a managed to get the cable nice and tight.

Luckily they must have moved the fuse box so it wasn't a problem.

Cheers for the reply
J
