I've done three sets since I bought it a year ago, has paid itself off as far as I'm concerned.

I have the ABN spring compressor which now has 5 spring jobs /10 springs under her belt so it’s now free. It save me from having to pay for new springs on 3 of those jobs.

It was a huge saving on the Bavarian money waster

It has safeties on the spring which are a really nice feature.

That’s a nice piece of kit , Erik. It Can also be used on toxic dates

One of the sachs kits fired off in the driveway , with the car stationary. Obvious spring defect from pics. Full warranty replacement by credit to new parts, and was lucky enough to get new tire covered fully under road hazard

Is the 1" higher a ride height change -- from center of hubcap to fender?

Agree with rest of us spring compressor experience:

Hi guys,

The P.O. installed some junk Chinese struts from Autozone, needless to say, it is kaput causing the coil springs to rub against itself when hitting potholes. Just surface rust where the spring coils touch each other when compressed.
But I have decided to replace them for peace of mind...

I need your help re Coil Spring (Lesjofors etc.)...
Build code sticker in RR door jamb says: 23ADX6145681.
Per IPDUSA website, my coil spring is "23".
https://www.ipdusa.com/Articles/524/Wha ... It-Tell-Me

I looked all over FCPEuro website but could not find Lesjofors that has code 23:
https://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/V70 ... d=586&v=97

Questions:

1. What is code 23, is it normal spring or stiffer spring?

2. Are all these springs compatible, let's say at factory is spring A, can you install spring C now, and vice versa?

3. What is considered sports spring, i.e., a bit stiffer than "normal duty"?
I prefer something a bit stiffer than stock.
I already bought Bilstein Struts (B4 type).

I recently replaced all my coils to Lesjofers. What I did was lookup the OEM Volvo part numbers for my car and then cross reference them to the Lesjofors part number. I called FCP euro with my VIN to confirm the correct springs before ordering. I went with standard as opposed to heavy duty and am happy with the results. Hope this helps.

FCPEuro lists tons of choices for Front Coil Spring, depending on the build code.

However, Rmeuropean.com and autohausaz.com list ONLY one type of coil spring, which is 9465464.

I assume 9465464 is "normal-duty" spring?

The photo shows Chinese strut.

I assume the springs are from Volvo factory.

Could someone check your car and tell me if it is normal for the spring to develop rust where the individual coils "kiss" each other on road bumps? If so, I might keep these springs bc the S60 springs are known to last some 200K?

If the strut is good, the individual coils won't touch each other.
OTOH, when the strut is kaput, there is no more dampening action, the individual coils are allowed to "kiss" each other?

Not sure why you assume that, do you see Volvo factory paint markings or something else that is not shown in the pic? My first assumption would be that someone installed a quick-strut, with junky springs to match the junky struts. Hence the rust. Similarly assume the spring seats, strut mounts and other hardware are junky until proven otherwise. Is either spring seat broken now?

This idea does seem possible but we've never seen or heard of it before in however many forum posts so I'd go with Occam's razor - very unlikely, or unlikely with an actual factory spring at least. Especially given that this car has such very low mileage. As above, a junky spring might make more sense.

Are there other signs of sketchy maintenance history where Volvo parts were swapped for imposters? Speaking of coils check the ignition coils - did they change them out for no-name ones?

Also those coils (springs) look unusually close together right now with the car at rest, unless that is just the camera angle.
