Re: Volvo VIDA J2534 Cable vs DICE?

Post by gamequeazy »

This thread was helpful in getting up the courage to order up one of the mongoose JLR clones from the usual suspects, actually showed up in like... 1.5 weeks! Even came with mongoose stickers

I was able to fire up Vida2014 on my VM and with the correct drivers for a mongoose, comm with my '08 V50 to read codes, clear stored DTC, etc. The config tool that comes with the drivers recognizes it as a mongoose Pro JLR.

I haven't attempted to do anything fancy like flash a module or use the VIDA subscription version but it does seem to communicate pretty quickly and reliably, faster than the videos i've seen of DICE being used to read codes etc.

For reference, the comm protocol part of the ad, so if its got those I figure you'll be sitting pretty:

Bus Protocols:
1. J1850PWM / SCP
2. ISO9141 / KWP2000
3. ROSCO
4. Medium Speed CAN
5. CAN Bus (capable of ISO 15765, GMLAN, and ISO14229)

Hope that helps.

Can you please post the listing where you purchased? It would be nice to get one from a reputable seller.

Unfortunately, the quality varies, so it would be really helpful to know which one has worked for @gamequeazy

Unfortunately, as often happens, the listing is now gone. To be clear, I have no idea if it would work or not trying to do anything fancier than diagnosing the car or clearing codes w/ 2014d vida but its a good deal if that's all you need it for.

Here's a snip of what it was:

Thanks for the info! Are you able to do module activations? I remember using those functions to diagnose my purge valve and TCV and that was super useful. (Forget exactly where in VIDA it was unfortunately... I believe something with delivery, activations .... on one of the electronic modules)

Many thanks for posting a pic of the item you bought. It shows VIDA compatibility in the listing so that's something to look out for.

Ah, this looks like it?

Here's another, both have a lot of wording that is for the DICE clones.

Thanks again for posting, I have a DICE unit but this will be handy in case it fails at some point. Unfortunately, we now have import duty to pay in the UK, so the price will be higher.

Just curious, what does Vida report the interface as for the JLR / Mongoose device?
