Re: Volvo VIDA J2534 Cable vs DICE?

Post by Davidib »

So I tried both V160's and I also tried using Vida through IE to make sure it wasn't my chrome addon, I still have the same issue. ECM is not responding. I pulled out my Foxwell scanner and was able to connect to the ECM, read codes, even read the ECM software number, etc. I really doubt that I have an ECM-CEM issue like a cut wire or corrosion on a pin, I doubt the car would even start if the ECM wasn't taking to the CEM but correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I've attached a whole bunch of pics from vida with chrome, vida with IE and my foxwell reading the ECM.

This did not actually happen but I just wanted to show what happened if the foxwell could not communicate with the ECM, I did this by not having the key in the second position.

Anyone near you with a p2 you can try? I would offer my fleet but I’m down here in the deep south of Ontario. OrangeX is near Montreal I believe.

Yeah I have a buddy that wanted to buy the second one I got so I'll let him try it out with the same virtual machine I made and then let him try with his own vida so we can isolate if it's the v160, vida or the car actually has an issue (which I doubt)

Also if somebody has a virtual machine that is ready to go let me know, I can send you mine as well to see if somebody gets the same issue with either a clone or authentic dice. You can upload the virtual machine to mega.com (you get 50 GB free when you make an account, if you do have a VM make sure you don't have snapshots, the VM's are usually around 30-40 GB.

Update, after making another Virtual machine with windows 10 pro following Trixeo's tutorial on Swedespeed, everything is working. Only thing I'm dealing with right now is the weird aspect ratio  I'll swap it over to Google and see if that solves it.

From Rick's screenshots it looks like he uses the IETab extension to make it work. Thanks for the update. I've put my order in for the JLR160

Great news, glad that you got it working! So, the problem was somewhere in the W10 / Chrome VM? I use a dedicated W7 pro PC so have not tried DICE in a VM or W10 but have had problems with other VM apps that use USB so can understand how it can be a bit hit & miss. Unfortunately, import duties here mean that it's beyond a 'nice to have' price but good all the same to know that there's a backup if my DICE clone fails.
Thanks again for updating your progress.

Make sure USB 2.0 is enabled in the VM.

I was on windows 7 pro & vida 2015A when I wasn't able to communicate with the ECM. I decided to give windows 10 pro a try so I made a completely seperate VM with vida 2014D from another source. People say that vida 2015A is just a rebranded 2014D so I thought it would work with the JLR but I guess something wasn't right. Trixeo has a step by step post on SS and I downloaded vida 2014D and the patch off of VVDE.info

Rick I happen to find your isoview solution for higher res screens (viewtopic.php?t=83834&start=80) but the isoview link is down. All the ones I've found on google are trials, do you know where I can find it?
