Started reassembling the interior over the weekend.
And tonight, my manual pedal pack came in. Yay!
However, swapping out the slushbox pedals for the proper set is yet another one of those car operations which requires you to be upside down and backwards and twisted and generally in pain.
I don't know, maybe I don't have the right temperament for this hobby. I spent the last hour screaming at the car while swapping the pedals. I'll leave the specifics to the reader's imagination, but this car is riddled with design flaws.
Or rather, one BIG one: The entire vehicle was designed to be manufactured, not repaired. It's a giant onion designed to go together ONCE, on an assembly line, with bolts and seals that can't be reused because of certain compromises made to satisfy conflicting design parameters.

Ah yes, installing pedals… one of my least favorite jobs! It’s always a painful job… I’m 6’3”, so I don’t have a good time folding myself under a dash.
If you’re not cursing at the car while installing the 850 pedal bracket, you’re some kind of wizard. I’ve only ever removed them from 850, and it’s a massive pain. Way better design on the X70s.

Driver's seat was out before I did the job. That only makes it LESS of a pain-in-the-ass job.

I'm 6'3" also and anything under my 850's dash was miserable. Relays, wiring, vacuum lines, all painful.

HEY KIDS, WHAT TIME IS IT?
IT'S FLYWHEEL TIME!!!
That nasty-looking upper mount is only there temporarily, to lift the engine and transaxle into the car. I'm replacing it with a new part. I know I said I wanted to use a modded 850 upper mount, but unless this one is egregiously out of position, I'm using it. I also decided to yank the old serpentine belt - it was more worn out than my dad's sense of humor.
Now, onto the rear main seal.
You don't need a seal driver to install the rear main. I used a hammer and a 3/8" extension. Just go around the seal and slowly (and gently) tap it into place. Also, here's a trick. I put a little 10W30 on the seal face so it'll slide over the crank flange.
Also, kudos to the machine shop. They did a hell of a job resurfacing my eBay flywheel. Eh, the transaxle gears did the same thing to me when I opened it up to inspect it.
New bolts, torqued and angled into position.
And both units are ready to mate up, as soon as my new clutch comes in, supposedly Monday.

That would have been very well with the cost savings!
Especially when you're back under there again in 6 months!
