Help! What is making this noise?

Hey everyone! I have an 06 XC90 2.5T 186,000. I can not figure out where this noise is coming from! It's from drivers side, rear wheel.

I'd make sure the wheel lug nuts are on tight.

Have you put it on jacks and looked for something rubbing?

Does the noise get faster as the XC90 goes faster?

Jack it up, remove wheel, check everything. Without more detail and not knowing if you are braking, it could be many things. Some things on the list of a clicking/clacking.
-brake caliper or pads loose
-CV joint rear axle
-Loose exhaust hanger (since exhaust is on the left side)
-Parking brake
-Worn suspension bushing (check trailing arm bushing first)

Have you done or had done work recently?

I've recently did the brakes and rotors, noise came before that. Didn't get any better or worse after. I've checked for rubbing, but I don't really know what I'm looking for. This is the first car I've had, that I've done the work myself, I'm still pretty new to it! Could this be causing it?

Not sure what you are pointing out, but the piece that is hanging from the spring is just a rubber coil isolator that looks dry rotted, cracking, and falling off. It doesn't matter if it falls off.

First thing you should check is if the noise is correlated to something rotating or not. Raise that corner and spin the wheel each way to see if the noise is replicable. If it is rotational, try to locate the noise without the wheel. Check the CV/axles or if the noise is coming from the parking brakes. You saw the parking brakes when you removed the rear rotors.

If it isn't related to something rotating, then check your exhaust hangers/exhaust by grabbing them and moving them if they make the clanking noise. Then check the trailing arm bushing at the subframe. The trailing arm is the only rear control arm that goes from the rear hub forward to the subframe. The other control arms go to the center of the rear subframe. I was spinning tire for about 45 seconds before the noise.

Just fyi, downloading MP4’s is something a lot of people avoid downloading due to space and internet security.

The video is not precise and you stop the video before spinning the other way. The wheel is also still on which can affect the noise. You really have to be the one to figure this out. You can buy a car/mechanic’s stethoscope to try to test different places for the noise. At least you can replicate it while turning the wheel.

Is the noise closer to the wheel or closer to the differential? That will make a big difference in what this might cost and the work involved.
