I replaced the fuel pump on my 2002 volvo s60 2.4m. Car seems to run fine but fuel pressure reading at the fuel rail is 100psi.
No one seems to be sure how fuel pressure is controlled on the module. There is no fuel pressure sensor on the rail. There is no fuel pressure regulator. Is the fuel pressure controlled directly by the ECM? Could the ECM be the issue?

I believe in systems where there is no PEM or FPS present 100% of the demand work is done by the fuel pump alone. I don't believe the ECM would send a pressure setpoint because there is literally no feedback in order to determine where it's at. I think you have a pump issue. Did you use a Bosch branded one? Eager to hear if someone corrects me. My information is based off of research I've done on my own 2004's both of which have no PEM, or FPS.

There's a relief valve right inside the pump in your model year, it releases the excess of pressure developed by the pump.

Is it true though, that models without the PEM/FPS run the fuel pump at 100% duty cycle basically all of the time? I know when I tried to troubleshoot my stumbling issue I was unable to monitor that parameter in VIDA.
