My bad. I think I was thinking of the serpentine belt that I had to loosen the idler pulley for. I think I had more difficulty getting that back on than the timing belt. But I did leave something a little lose to do that belt as well.
Obviously I need more tea this morning.....

I was super thankful and surprised that my gasket mostly came off in one piece. The only part that stuck was the upper right corner that can't be seen.

I completely understand needing to walk away, and not making it back for awhile...done that plenty of times. Sometimes the initial "getting back to it" is just a reevaluation of where Ieft off.

I was working on a friends car in a barn miles from anywhere with only the tools I brought with me in may car. This was before I owned any P80s. I had that belt on and off so many times wedging the sprocket with blocks or wood I found in the barn. It was a horrible nightmare that has scarred me for life.

Eight minutes, huh? Being an MVS Moderator, I'm surprised that you would ignore forum rules regarding bragging and inflicting mental anguish of fellow posters. ;-)

Well, I almost hate to admit it, Mr. Sixteen Times in Two Days, but your technique is what finally got the belt on, though I came up over the tensioner last because it had no teeth to align with. In the end, everything looks right , and the timing marks look good, but if there are issues in a few days when I start it up, I'll be blaming you! ;-)

Getting the second bolt into that little guard below the crank was also excruciating. I don't know why it was such a struggle.

While the coolant is out, I want to replace any of the coolant carrying hoses that I haven't already done, especially those two little turbo coolant lines behind the engine.

Turbo coolant pipes can be stinkers but at least you don't have AWD! I did the upper and left the lower to the dealer with a hoist!

Volvo only for the little turbo hoses , and the oetiker clamps are a breeze there. I cut them off and lube them to put them on. Professor Potato recently posted a rubber safe lube of isopropyl alcohol, aka, rubbing alcohol.

Got the Volvo ones in hand. Early on, I used a Euro hose 2" long in the EVAP system by the fuel filter. Went bad and cracked within 6 months. That was just vapors...
