My first no-start experience today! This winter on the coldest days, I had issues with the starter doing the same thing as at 2:42 in this video :
However, after a couple of attempts, it would start.
Today, I was cranking and cranking successfully, but the car just wouldn't turn over. Suddenly, I got an Anti-Skid Service Required Message on my DIM, and a check engine light. Code revealed to be P0600. Tried cranking 4 or more times. Finally it turned over.
To me, it's evident of a brown out condition that brought down the communication bus, or a module that prevented my start. Battery sits idle at about 12.4 and alternator running I get a steady 14v. Could a bad starter pull the bus down and prevent a start (ironic, I know) ? Will pull VIDA information when I get home from work but I'm not sure it will help me any further.

I suspect your battery is pooched-- take it to Canadian Tire for a load test.

Load test passed with flying colours. Picked up a starter and will replace tomorrow.

some guys say to reroute that wire at the same time the starter is out . It runs behind the starter bracket.
Is it the crank timing sensor wire ?
Whatever it is , its known to pick up RF from an old sparking starter motor and prevent starts.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought perhaps you were just referring to that exciter wire with the crimped end. I will keep a look out for any looms that live close to the starter. If anyone has a diagram of the wiring jones is referring to (cn90 I’m looking at you for nice captioned photos!!) please post them for reference.

None had any valid picture links. Thank you for that link with good photos! My cable actually looked very good and solid, attached to the mounting bracket that routes it away from the starter. Even the looms were in good condition. I replaced the starter with a Bosch rebuilt and it's working great today. I'll update in a month and mark as solved if it doesn't happen again.
From my research last night, it looks like hot humid weather can exaggerate any sort of interference issues. With my starter already on it's way out, it was likely generating a ton of EMI on that very hot day a few days ago (~33c dry bulb here), that caused the CANBus to go haywire. Good thing this issue is so well-documented on everyone's favourite Volvo forum- MVS!
