Take a chance on an old bone yard engine. Think the go for maybe $400+tax (approx price). You can buy bone yard insurance but you only have like 30days to find a good used one. I would by an engine put it on a stand and rebuild the new motor. Some work yes but very rewarding in the end!

Thanks for the idea. I replaced the engine about 12 years ago with one that had only 43,000 miles on it. Don't know that I want to go through that again, but it's a consideration.

It’s comparable in time/ effort to do either an engine swap or cylinder head rework but easier logistically to do the cylinder heads rework

Check your local machine shops to see who has experience with Volvo heads or at least Euro cars.

One hint,,,when they have 5 cylinder engines on their price list

Engine swap is a much easier job than an engine teardown and reassembly for head work, if you have the space for the hoist. Though comparable in time I agree; engine swap can be completed a little faster for sure.

But I agree with the consensus - time to pull the head!

That is one beautiful car! Only wish it was a lot closer as I never see anything that nice up here in Canada.

It has to be rejuvenated as it is way to good to be scrapped!
