I'm watching all videos and reading all write-ups i can find about evaporator replacement right now.
It looks like a messy job.

Not to physically be removed but it needs to be disconnected from firewall quick-connect coupler..according to write-ups and videos i watched this far.
Abscate says that i leave the quick disconnect alone and to disconnect the lines from the cabin.
Is it good idea to replace a heater core or to leave it alone?
I read and watched videos that replacing a heater core doesn't require the dash out...it can be replaced from underneath...from driver's footwell area...if it needs to be replaced in the future.

Misha, your the Dude :) This will be nothing for you. Dash is easy; evaporator switched out in a few minutes once the dash is out.
No need to do heater core. Another easy job for another day.

Thank you for encouragement sveedy!

I just want to cover everything since i don't like unpleasant surprises.

I never pulled the dash from any car before...so this is all new to me.

I have re-watched Roberts videos on evaporator replacement, although they are not entirely clear on the subject, there is no mention of disconnecting the heater core. I followed these instructions in the past they may help you and others too:

https://www.woodjoiner.com/volvo/pdf/Vo ... eplace.pdf

https://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-s70 ... ions-1697/

I still do not recall having to remove the heater core or disconnect it. I am happy to be proved wrong.

Biggest pain on an 850 is removing the knee bolsters under the dash.

We don't have them on 850 in EU.

Both of those write-ups suggests that heater core hoses needs to be disconnected at firewall quick connect lines.

You take out a torx t25 which holds the bracket and aluminum lines , then ease the bracket forward or the heater core backwards to free the two. Leave the rest of the lines alone so you don’t fuss with the coupler.

You can catch the coolant, about 1 liter, in a large plastic bag, or flush the core with water before hand, and then use a towel to catch most of it on removal.

I need part numbers for evaporator & o-rings for heater core.

As far as i could see...evaporator comes with o-rings.

Is Nissens or NRF ok for evaporator?

I don't mind being wrong, but I think the section of the housing where the evaporator can be opened without removing the whole heating system with long Torx screw drivers or attachments. Either way, with the dash out the way, access to the heater core is easy so removing it is simple. If it is getting up there in age, then worth swapping it out while it is apart.
