2001 S60 Evap system P0455 large leak.

Post by Overhaul »

Hi all I have a little problem and I have done some reading but have not come up with an answer yet so here goes, Had a p0455 large leak show up on my car so I did a evap smoke test on a 2001 s60 Volvo non turbo, and the smoke was coming out of the #19 canister object at the right rear just in front of the back bumper and behind the gas filler tube. I know when you do a evap smoke test there is not suppose to be any smoke coming out anywhere. It is hooked to a hose coming from the shutoff valve next to the charcoal canister. If I had started the car up while we did the test would the valve have closed or dose this mean that the shutoff valve is bad or stuck open and defected, needs to be replaced? I know this is a dumb question but what would happen if I plugged off the #19 canister, I think it is a air filter or cleaner. Thanks for your time reading.

Hi, saw this and decided to chime in really quick. What you are looking at is most likely a gas filler tube. My Volvo was throwing a P0455 (this means a large leak, turned out to be the same area and canister as yours) and a P0442 (faulty fuel cap gasket) due to P0455. Waiting now for parts to come in order to take care of the problem. Let me know if you've solved the problem.
