Set a timer for 10 minutes , then go surf “ Bob is the Oil guy” and you might see why we keep the discussions here brief. There are plenty of places to go to study this stuff

Sometimes I think those guys are insane :shock:

I googled it, and am surprised to find:
the study of friction, wear, lubrication, and the design of bearings; the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion. to find:
I thought for sure it was going to be an internet term for the tendency of people to form tribes around certain schools of thought and vigorously defend them online.

Just bought new oil for my wife’s 2014 Ford Hybrid. Went with Oreillys own synthetic oil and an american made WIX filter.

Hello,

I found a chart that says that 10 is good down to -25 degrees F, and 30 is good up to over 212 degrees F something like 250 degrees F, so 10w 30 covers -25 to 250 degrees F.
I also found that the 'w' in 10w stands for 'winter' but not sure how accurate that is.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.
1998 v70, non turbo, FWD, base model, on the road from April 2nd, 2015 to July 26, 2023.

There are specs for ambient temperature as well as oil temperature, it sounds like that chart is related to oil temperature

The owners manual gives viscosity chart per ambient temperature
