Re: intermittent no start
Well … the DICE was the defective hardware in my case. You still need to start with a good VIDA software code read on that car in order to try and figure out what’s going on. It’s a good starting point. I’m still thinking the starter is a possibility. Many of them are going bad at this age. Easy and cheap enough to replace if needed.

Much of my time during the job is spent hauling things up and down the stairs to the basement or in and out of the storage shed, or running back downstairs when I realize I need something else,or taking a break from standing out in the sun,or using flashlights or work lamps when it gets dark.

Would the FOB battery also randomly enable the security system / disable engine start?

Sometimes I'll get an intermittant no start on my '02 V70XC. It's always the small wire that connects to the starter. Or I should say the spade electrical connector. I can reach down in there and just wiggle it a bit and then it starts every time.

Aka the “exciter” wire. Probably a good idea to crimp a new end on there and get some fresh copper on it.
