Timing belt 2000 C70

Post by cyanmauve »

Hi all,

I have a 2000 C70 that I acquired in 2010 or so with about 125k miles.

The timing belt was last changed and replaced with a Gates belt at 121k miles per a sticker in the engine compartment.

Over the past ten years, I've put about 10k miles on the car.

Do I need to replace the timing belt again simply due to age? The engine is running well otherwise.

Thanks!

It is recommended at 10 years due to the belt deteriorating whether used or not. Just like tires there is a material lifespan for safe use.

I agree with Neil; it's not just the belt, the bearing in the idler and tensioner can both get stiff with age. Keep in mind the penalty for waiting a bit too long can be severe.
Take a hard look at the water pump as well, if it's still original replace it too, comfortable in the thought you will be good for another 10/100k.

Thanks for the replies - that's what I figured the response would be.

Water pump replacement likely a good idea as well, as it's original to the car.
