S70 Catalytic Converter Availability?

Post by AtomicForces »

Can anyone share any possible sources for a CARB compatible catalytic converter for a 2000 Volvo S70 GLTSE (w/turbo)? I am in New York state and have a California emissions system, so I need the CARB version. I know that FCPEuro has one listed, but it is discontinued. The issues with my existing converter is that one of the oxygen sensor spacers broke off, the downstream flange is rusted away and patched, and the upstream end is getting weak. It is 22 years old. I realize finding this part is going to be difficult, but I probably need it to pass inspection and keep the car on the road.

thanks,

Alan

You dont have to be CARB compliant in NY as long as the OBD doesnt code for cat throughput you will pass inspections. You are also only 3 years from no emissions inspection at all!

I have a some P80 cats but I dont think they are turbos, your downpipe and diameter are different

Have you asked Brumsted at IFC Service if he can find one?

Go Big Red!! Are you attached to CHESS (guess from username)

Thanks for the reply, I am at CHESS actually. :) IFC looked at my car this week and are looking for a converter too.

There are many converters that can't be sold in New York state. The goal is to get the check engine light to go off and stay off so I can pass inspections. If it is or isn't CARB, I don't really care, but its probably the only ones that I could get someone to sell to me. Which maybe moot, as I don't think new ones exist.

Your US Volvo websites confuse me. When I put in the part # 8603026 which up here is listed for a 2000 V70 2.4l Turbo, it says it fits that car. Putting that part number into the US Volvo parts sites says it fits but then also says it does not fit????

It is a hefty price at $1000!

Thanks! FCPEuro says #8603026 is for 2004 C70. Some other websites say that number is for 2000 S70, but many say for C70 only. I would hate to gamble $1000 to see if it would work for me or not.

Call a Volvo dealer and let them take the responsibility for getting the right number!

If you find one that will work let me know, I can receive it in either PA, VT, or MA easily and I travel to Cornell twice a month or so.

The parts geek offering

Davico Catalytic Converter - Front
Part Number: 869-05687672
Brand: Davico

Seems like the best option at $515, but you need an out of state receiver.

I went to muffler shop here in CA. They cut off the bad cat and welded on a MagnaFlow instead. Weld job looked like crap but it was not leaking and it is 100% road legal.

I found out the part number for my car is officially (according to Volvo part database per local dealer and shop) #8603015, which is discontinued. #8603026 is officially for 2003-04 C70, not for s70, though it also listed for 2.4 liter, 5 cylinder turbos, which my S70 is. So it not officially for my car, but is for my engine. I am still waiting for the local shop to look for a source.
