AylmerQc wrote: 03 Nov 2022, 07:11 I just found out from the previous owner that the timing belt was last changed in 2013 at 110,000.
It now has 200,000 miles.
Is this a job I could do at home on a weekend, or a week, taking my time?
I've done lots of mechanical work on my own cars over the years but no timing belts.
I have a pretty good idea of what's involved generally but wondering how complex it is on this particular car...
it becomes only slightly more complicated if the cams are CVVT equipped, especially the spring loaded ones. Precautions are taken when reinstalling the new belt to load the sprocket to its sprung position ( to the timing marks) first before the teeth in the belt engage the gear.

water pump bolts are only 12 ft lb torque, go easy on them. Snug em down then add maybe 1/8th inch more.

Thanks again Jonesg.
I had to look up CVVT and from what I can see my 2007 XC70 has this.
Looks like any Volvo post-1999 has it..?

Ay- I did the belt, water pump ect on my 03 XC70 a couple of summers ago. It went fine for me. I did build my own cam lock thing, 4 bolts that indexed to gear notches. I marked the old belt with 2 dots of paint and transferred those dots to the new belt. It went well and the car started with no CEL. Way easier than the T Belt I did on my wife's 03 new Beetle turbo!! Dave

Dave
That cam pulley lock system you made is genius!
I've seen other push in type and would create a false sense of security
Especially when dealing with the dual VVT normal procedure end up locking opposite end of camshaft which creates extra work but allows access to cam seals.
If cam seals are not leaking your rig could be used and timing problems would be thing of the past.
Cheers
