My timing belt idler was starting to feel a little sandy when i turned it by hand. The water pump was starting to get a little noise in it when turned by hand as well. This was the 3rd timing belt and around 140k.

Thanks guys I will look at replacing all the components.

I looked on the FCP website and there is a big variety and variation in prices. $45- $125! Besides Scan Tech prices are there any better/ wort ones? The Volvo one is the most expensive should I go with that? Also would it make ANY sense at all to change just the gasket? I have no sounds from the pump only the leaking.

Thanks

The Hepu pump is just fine but that is as low as I am going to go on the price scale. I have around 100k miles on a Hepu from FCP right now on the '94 and no problems. They (Hepu) may even be better than OEM since all of my OEM pumps tend to blow up mechanically at around 100k.

Always change the gasket. Half of it will come off with the old pump and half of it won't. The biggest PITA is getting the half that sticks to the face of the block off. Time and scrapers but don't get real aggressive with it.

I think he means is the gasket leaking or the pump itself. Chances are you will see the coolant coming from the weep hole on the pump housing. That being the case, only a new pump will resolve it.

I had a small crack at the coolant tank where the lower hose attaches. Would only leak under pressure. Cheap and easy replacement
