If you can get Richard Prince to sign that it will pay fir all needed repairs. He is partial to 1999s though. Wait, wrong Prince

Bummer on the patch process. I though about suggesting a cut piece of patch hose snug on the line , with a larger uncut hose that fits over the fitting at the pump worked down to over the split hose, forming a hose sand which. Oetiker bothe split and larger hose.

Flaring and sewage will work. Maybe CuNiform for the pipe?

Good old replacement line is the best fix

Replacement is the only real solution for this line. With a good flare nut crowsfoot wrench, it seems like a straightforward job. I'll reply here once I do it.

I bought a quality MAC Tools flare nut crowfoot wrench set used on eBay. I'll think it's reasonable to replace the line with the rack entirely in place. Remember to get a new green o-ring for the line.

Edit 11/10/23 - Don't try to flare a new section on to this line. The original is 10 mm and the only reasonably accessible replacements are 3/8". You'd have to shave down a 10 mm line to 3/8" to match which would decrease the metal wall thickness, weakening the line. Assuming it's already rusty, it's weakened, so shouldn't be weakened further.

On rusty and neglected Geronimo, I removed the power steering fluid input line rather easily. It was slow work turning a crows foot 1/4 turn before removing and resetting it, but it came off.

Before installing a new line, ensure that it is bent exactly the same as the old line. Every angle must match for it to both feed in under the rack properly and seat properly into the rack. The U shape right at the rack is critical to match the old or it won't seat and its fitting threads will not catch.

I replaced the line with a used one from abscate. I don't detect any leaks in the system and my steering is restored. Well, almost. When making a turn from a stop, the steering is hard until the car starts moving. I hope that's just air in the lines and not a ruined pump from driving without fluid.

Moral of the story: With a steering fluid input line leak, don't drive the car and replace that line immediately. It's expensive and awkward, but possible and will truly solve the problem.

A tip if the hat for getting that off in place. I admire your workmanship and craft. I have never been able to crack one of these off a P80 in probably six attempts

I found a great video on how power steering works and posted it here, somewhere. It turns out you have a flexible coupling in he rack head that only shunts pressure above a certain wheel torque. Simple and elegant i

An heroic effort, well done. That quality crows foot money was well spent.
You New Englanders have epic issues with rust. So far all my rack round trips have been with the subframe on the floor. Thinking about it makes my head hurt.

I bought a 10 piece set of Matco flare nut crowsfoot wrenches off eBay for $125 shipped. American made, never used, in a case, with the sizes nicely stamped on each (unlike current Snap-on laser etching). They were less expensive than the Snap-on, SK, or MAC ones I evaluated and they met my needs perfectly.

I inherited quality American tools from my father. I buy quality tools so they'll always work for me and get passed on to another generation. And for simple tools like wrenches with no moving parts to wear out, buying used offers a huge savings.

Your thoughts on air in the lines may be correct; try jacking the front off the ground and turning the wheel lock-to-lock ten-12 times (I did it engine off). Dunno what the book says about it, but cured mine. I thought I was in for a fourth round trip on the subframe.
As always, beware Cardone anything ( apologies to Cato.)
