700 miles per year? 50 miles per month, 10 miles per week?

I would sell the car and use Lyft
Hi Steve (and some good news),

Well thanks for that idea. I may be able to go with a new unit if a reasonable price but that's an interesting idea to try. Thanks.
Yes i have time but some recent expenses puts me a little under the cash floor for now.

I did a calculation and realize it's more like 9 miles per week and that comes out to 468 miles per year. That's far less than most other people drive i bet. Far, far less. I used to drive 20 miles to work and 20 miles back years ago. When i was working for Singer Kearfott in North Jersey i had to drive something like 40 or 50 miles to work then another 40 or 50 back. Big difference from today.

Yes many people have suggested selling and using services like that. I considered that long ago. The thing is, you loose some of your independence i think when you do that. If you have to go somewhere you have to get a ride service to take you there. When i was going to the eye doc i had to get Ubers because my eyes were not right yet and sometimes they dilate your eyes so you have a hard time seeing anyway. One of my neighbors drove home from an eye doc that way and he said it was weird, but i would never chance it. The thing is though, it ran into some money. About $50 round trip.
To the food store and back it would be about $30 round trip. I might be able to get away with just one or two times a week and use a food delivery service sometimes.
So it's something to think about, but would you really be willing to part with your beloved Volvo ? :D

Some good news.
The car sounds much better with the #3 cylinder wire replaced with a brandy new one.
This time i took the power drill out there to get the cover bolts off, but they were pretty tight already. Somehow i think they tighten up a bit once the engine gets hot and then cools down again. I know i didnt tighten them that much.
So hopefully that's all the other part of the problem was (the relay being the first part).
I will probably still replace the other wires too since i have a whole set now that are new and pretty hefty looking.

Oh one thing. The wire in the #3 hole in the dist cap was super hard to remove. I pulled on that booty with all my might and it would not slip off. I ended up ripping the booty on the old wire then had to use pliers to pull the metal insert out of the cap. I didnt think they stuck in there that good.
The thing is, if i do clean the dist cap (or replace it) can i get that new booty off without ripping the booty ? I'd hate to ruin the new set of wires.
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Wow both for $40 that's great thanks for the linkage (har har) :)
I might inspect first before buying as abscate suggests but that price sounds really good.

Oh and BTW the old wires were Bosch but i have no idea when they were installed, sometime before i bought the car.

I did use the wires from the OE supplier Bougicord. The only issues was that I got a mislabeled set the first time. FCP made it right, and sent me the proper wires after I sent pictures. I found that in the case of wires there was no advantage to going with a different brand price-wise.

Hi,

Well i was doing good with the car for so long and then all of a sudden it started having problems.
I made the mistake of taking it to the wrong guy. That was the mistake. The garage i would have normally brought it too said they stopped working on older foreign cars.

But some good news. i took it to the dollar store today and it ran pretty good all the way there and all the way back with no signs of misfire, and the check engine light went out! Crazy huh?

Thanks for all the ideas and help with this problem. Hopefully that's it with this car.

Small Update.

Just thought i would verify that the hex Allen key wrench needed for the distributor rotor is a 4mm.
Robert's video said 4mm or 5mm so i thought i would check.
What i dont know though is if some rotors actually have a 5mm or even 4.5mm or something. Right now i am assuming they all have 4mm because that's the one that fits in mine. 1998 v70 non turbo, FWD, base model.
