Codes + Tranny Issues

Post by Contsi »

New to forum, thanks.

2000 S80 T6
I had all codes cleared by Autozone after ABS module rebuild, soon after, the CEL came on. The car was scanned by Advanced Auto, the print out shows the following result.

DTC (Codes)

P0036
H02S Bank 1 Sen 2
Heater Circuit

P0136
02 Sensor
Circuit Malfunction
(Bank 1 Sensor 2)

DTC Pending (Codes)

No Faults Detected

I did some search on this forum and if this is accurate I need the Bank 1 sensor 2. Is this something I may be able to do myself.

Tranny Issue:
I'm able to shift out or park without stepping on the brake and it's difficult
to shift out of park if on a hill.

Any thoughts/advice, thanks

This has to do with your oxygen sensor...they have a lot of false positives when there are vacuum leaks or the MAF sensor is going bad (not bad enough to register a MAF code)...check all of your smaller and larger hoses under your hood and make sure this isn't your issue first before going and replacing expensive parts.

 Appears 'Made in Japan' answered your first question...On the second
one about getting into gear from park on a hill....If your parking against a curb either down or up, turn your wheels in the direction necessary to block movement...Apply the parking brake PRIOR to shifting into park..
This will take the pressure off the shifting gears when you decide to leave..
If your parking on a incline or slant w/o curbs do the same..Apply the parking brake prior to park....You'll have no more problems getting it into gear....

Any idea why I'm able to shift from park without stepping on the brake, seems it is a safety issue.

Sorry, do not know the answer to your question, although there are others on the forum that are way more qualified then I..Hopefully they will
pipe in....
Its probably a brake locking device that releases when the brake is applied so one can shift...I suppose you could call it a safety issue..

Yes, it is a safety issue and if you're able to shift without stepping on the brake pedal something is up....check the rear (or have someone check) to see if your brake light comes on when you step on it. If not, then maybe a PNP switch is at fault here.

There is a solenoid in the shift assembly that sounds like it burnt out. You have to take the center console out to replace it. It sounds like yours burnt out in the "in" position. I had the same issue but it burnt out in the "out" postion and the car would not shift out of park. It is around $150 from the dealer. I removed mine, taped the wires, and all is fine.

Thanks for the reply, When you say you removed yours and taped the wires, did you replaced? any detaied instruction? Also, do you know if this would cause the issue of it being difficult to shift out of park when on a hill? I do the parking brake when I remember but there should be a fix.

Thanks
