Rear Door won't Close when Cold

Post by ColoradoAndy »

This is my first post on this site. IT IS AMAZING! I found this site and instantly found out that a lot of people have the same problems as I do with my 2004 XC90. The best part is I can already see some of the savings I will have in future repairs.

My problem- When the temperature gets around freezing my rear door won't latch unless you slam the door as hard as you can. When it is warm if you can just gently push it closed. I am pretty much at a loss on this one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!

Eleven years later, but I'm experiencing the exact same behavior on my XC90 MY08.

Any idea what is causing this?

Try greasing these areas. The latch may have old frozen grease. The spray shouldn't affect anything electrical but do this at your own discretion.

My 05 rear hatch latch is rusty and sticks open...I have to push the latch handle back down or the hatch won't lock. May be same issue on yours.
