Ball joint worn ? How much movement?

So, as it usually goes , I started cleaning rear view mirror ended up with front control arm off and checking ball joints. How loose should it be ? With the ball joint just still in the hub and no control arm I can flick it and it springs back to the middle -there is VERY little resistance.
Should it be stiff like a end link bush , have just answered my own question there?

Edit -I should add there is no movement with there on and hands at 12 and 6

A new unit should be real stiff and difficult to move. If it goes up and down it should be replaced.
