Quick hello from a new 850 Estate owner

Post by Mistericeman »

Thought I'd better post a quick hello ,

I've recently dug out my late father's 850 Estate from his garage,
Dad sadly passed away just before the whole covid thing (not covid related )
And his Volvo had been parked since untouched .
Even after all this time (battery still had enough life to light the, dash but not start as dad always, kept it disconnected )

4 gallons of fresh petrol and a lithium jump pack it started and ran pretty well .

After digging it out and inflating the tyres ....it went straight through its MOT with advisory on a corroded Damper shroud and a missing exhaust hanger ....

Drives lovely too

Sad you lost your Dad, but at least you have a nice car to go along with your memories. The condition of your dash pad is astonishing, over here at that age the sun and time would have turned it crispy around the edges.

Cheers ....

Dad would've only been upset its taken me so long to dig it out ...
It was his pride and joy even though it only usually did a couple of thousand miles between mots ....

It drives much younger than its 140 odd thousand miles ...
It's a dream

Iโ€™m so sorry to hear about your Dad, I lost mine a year ago and itโ€™s not great. Your wagon though is spectacular, my sons and I have always preferred the more square look of the 1992-2000 850 Wagon, each of us has had a 850 Sedan. Soon, wife willing, I shall have another, probably a 2001-2007 type. Most importantly, wagons are cool and great for trips to the hardware store. Keep it up & send more pics!

Looking for a V90 to be my next Volvo, at the very least a T5.

2017 XC90 Inscription - My best Volvo by far, but Ex-wife departed & I had to sell. ๐Ÿ˜•
2001 S80 T6 - rebuilt trans, head gasket, fixed & sold
1997 V70 - kid car, sold
1996 850 GLT - found under bridge, 2 year refurb project, commuter car, kid car, T-Boned - SIPS saved passenger. Totaled.
1997 VW GTI VR6 - exceedingly fast.
1971 VW Type II/231 - it was pointed out by management that the children would be killed in it.
