Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 in V70/XC70

I have several jugs of Pennzoil Platinum 5W30 full synthetic oil (made from natural gas) which I bought for another car which I no longer have. Can I use this in my 2005 XC70 (150k) and 2006 V70 (200k)? I read somewhere that this oil is intended for newer engines of lower mileage - I'm not sure if this is true and if so, why that would be the case. Historically I've been using 10W30 high mileage synthetic oil in these cars, mostly depending on the deal that is around at the time. Would like to use this spare oil if possible unless there is some major reason not too. I live in Northern Virginia so it gets hot and cold.

Absolutely. Get some 15w40 and use a couple of quarts with each oil change.

I’ve started going to this, a $14 jug of Mobil 1300 15w40 is very cheap way to top up a 6 quart sump. Yes it changes the viscosity and additive package a bit but not a huge deal if running 5000 mile interval or less.
